So the 2014 World Cup has come to an end with Germany winning this time against Argentina. A fantastic final – the best one I can remember as they are usually very negative with both teams scared of losing rather than trying to win. The wonderful atmosphere created by both sets of fans at the final showed that football can be about nations coming together to celebrate all that’s good about the game. This was underlined when Brazil fans watching their own team lose 7 goals in the semi-final applauded the seventh strike from Germany – recognising that they were watching a great team and so deserved to be acknowledged. Roll on Russia 2018…
If you not done so yet please try to respond to Renfrewshire Council’s call for evidence for the Poverty Commission – see here:
We recently had a visit at the Engage Renfrewshire offices from John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth in the Scottish Government. Members of Renfrewshire’s Forum for Empowering Communities in attendance were able to bring Mr Swinney and Renfrewshire MSP George Adam up to speed with the Community Planning Partnership’s work locally on Empowering Communities. For more information on the local empowerment agenda see here:
And as the World Cup bows out our own games begin – watch out for the ‘Baton’ in Renfrewshire on Thursday:
I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and don’t forget to make the most of these long summer nights. I’ll go before I start impersonating John Travolta…or Olivia Newton John. Or both.
Tara for noo.
