And the straw boss said “Well, a-bless my soul”

I had a birthday fairly recently. I like birthdays and I’m always very happy to get a pressie or two. This year my children brought me breakfast in bed and made sure that their auld man was well looked after. They also got me a cake…

Are they trying to tell me something?…

Following the work of the Tackling Poverty Commission which reported in March 2015, Renfrewshire Council have developed an Action Plan with partners to deliver the Commission’s recommendations. The Tackling Poverty Commission did some engagement work early on in its life, and the conversations that third sector organisations facilitated for the Commission were hugely influential in the Commission’s findings and recommendations. The Council are looking to continue some of these conversations, and are inviting those organisations that played a key role previously, along with a wider group, to play a similar role as the Council develops and delivers its Tackling Poverty Strategy. There’s a session at Engage Renfrewshire’s offices on 28th July from 2pm-4pm, to talk about the work so far and how they’d like to work with community organisations going forward – the officers from the Council see this work as an ongoing conversation, rather than a consultation with an end date which I think is a very positive approach. We’ve got a number of local organisations coming along but if you or your group would like to be involved in future discussions please contact

Sandra from Renfrewshire’s Health & Social Care team has been working with us for the last few months and next week (Thursday 30th July 2015 – 1pm to 4pm) she’s holding a ‘Show & Tell’ Event in Renfrew Town Hall. There will be be a lot of local health organisations in the room sharing their experiences – hopefully see some of you there.

Next month (August 25, 1:00pm – 3:30pm) here at our offices we will facilitate a funding spotlight session facilitated by The Robertson Trust and Lloyds TSB to discuss how their funds work and who they might consider funding. Please note this session is for charities only. To sign up please contact
